I have had this blog for over a year and have never posted. It's about time that I took the leap and began.
What is it like to be a newbie in the land of yarny goodness? I'm not quite a newbie anymore, since I've been knitting for a few years now, but I still remember the first few months of learning to knit and discovering that a parallel knitting universe existed. As many others, I had been taught to knit as a child by my mom and grandmother, but didn't continue beyond 8th grade Home Ec. I then made the obligatory garter stitch scarf with supplies purchased at a big box craft stoore but couldn't figure out why I didn't really like the finished product. When I walked into a local fabric store that carried some 100% wool yarns, I began to understand. The difference was the yarn!!! Some of the yarn at the Fabric Place was soft (Malabrigo), some was crunchy (the Lopi), and some took my breath away (I'm looking at you, Noro!). I didn't know that fiber like that existed. It was amazing, pivotal, life-changing in a good way. I bought "Stitch and Bitch" and I never looked back.
